The document was given to any seaman or officer that was crossing the equator for the first time.They held a ceremony onboard the ship which initiationed,in fun and humor, this crossing.They handed out subpoenas to the first timer ordering him to appear before the Royal Court. At Court they wee charged guilty and had to be paddle and then greased on their face, eyes, and noses and run about the ship submiting to all kinds of jester.
