Jack Whited went on active duty in July 1945 after finishing boot camp in San Diego.  He joined the crew of the USS West Virginia in October 1945 when the ship was participating in Operation Magic Carpet to bring soldiers and marines home to the US from the Pacific theater.  He was on the ship until completion of inactivation activities at Puget Sound in June 1946.  He went on to serve on USS Indiana until being discharged in August 1946.  After discharge, he joined the Navy Reserves and was called back to active duty in Korea in August 1950.  He served on USS Bairoko (CVE-115) patrolling for submarines off Japan.  He was discharged for good in 1951.  He obtained a college education and worked for IBM for 30 years.
