Aubrey T. Burd, Turret Captain 1/c, born Jan. 20,1921, Horse Cave, KY. He enlisted in the USN Oct. 5, 1939, Salt Lake City, UT; took basic training at NTS San Diego, CA; was assigned to the USS West Virginia and was aboard ship on Dec. 7, 1941.

After the attack he fought fires and helped with the wounded on the ship. He remained with the West Virginia until 1943. He helped raise the ship and make her ready for sea to return to the States in 1943.  Left the West Virginia in the Navy Yard in Washington and was then assigned to the USS Quincy. He took part in the D-Day invasion.  Discharged Oct. 29, 1945, and joined the USAF. He saw service at K-14 Kempo Korea and Vietnam. He retired in 1970 from the USAF.

He and his wife have four children, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
