Dear Sir,

My late Grandmothers brother , Paul Eugene Newton, died in action as Seaman first class while attached to the USS W VIRGINIA. I have a serial number along with some letters from the Bureau of Naval Personnel. #300 02 68

As written, a statement of naval service:
1-9-1940 Enlisted in the U.S. Navy as Apprentice Seamen in Chicago Ill.
3-26-1940 Rating changed to Seaman second class
7-24-1940 Crossed the Equator on board the USS W VIRGINIA and duly initiated a Shellback
7-1-1941 Rating changed to Seaman first class
12-7-1941 Died in action as Seaman first class while attached to the USS W VIRGINIA

I hope that you will add his name to your list. Both my Grandparents died before the internet explosion but I know that they would have found your site very helpful.

Thank you Adam D. Singletary
