Wayne Yates was a cook aboard the USS West Virginia when it was attacked at Pearl Harbor.  After WW II Wayne spent some time as a recruiter in Wenatchee, Wa. and Chehalis, Wa. He was hoping to retire, but Korea came along. He served on the U. S. S. Firedrake. After his retirement he served and Deputy U. S. Marshall in Kotzebue, Alaska. They then moved back Corvallis and he was a deputy sheriff there until his death.
