Wallis K. Schmidt

USS West Virginia

Wallis Kenneth Schmidt, Seaman 2/c, born Feb. 15, 1908, Leominster, MA, joined the USN Aug. 1, 1924, as an apprentice seaman. Units Served: Radioman Striker, Signalman School and Radio School.  Memorable experiences include the time in Australia and the South Sea Islands, Korea and Pearl Harbor.  Discharged Feb. 15, 1927, with the rank of S2/c.

He worked for the civil service as an assistant comptroller and management engineer, retiring in 1962. Schmidt passed away May 10, 1996. He had three children.
