Roger W. Schiveley
Enlisted

USN
USS West Virginia
1944-1945

Dr. Roger Watterson Schiveley, entered the U.S. Navy in 1944. After training at San Diego where he became a platoon commander, he was assigned to the USS West Virginia and served in the dental unit as assistant and technician. He remained on board into 1945 and has told me the ship was preparing as part of the planned invasion of the Japanese home islands when the news of the atomic bombs was received. He was discharged in 1945 and then attended dental school at the University of Southern California and practiced dentistry in Garden Grove, California.
